Was accused of drinking water
And fined a great big fifty dollar bill.
You know, they put COFFEE in the coffee in Brazil…
but he was interrupted by one of the workers.
“Sammy Davis Jr?” he cried, disbelieving, “I thought you were
dead!”
Davis continued to dance before the car, explaining, “Quality
never dies. Only people do.” He winked at the man and his glass eye
fell out. It bounced out onto the asphalt and rolled over next to the
man’s feet. “Oops,” Sammie said.
This provided Colin with the opportunity to crush the worker’s
testicles in his fist. Bennie managed to free himself as well, snatching
the eye. They flung themselves into the van.
“Drive, Smokey! Quick style!” Colin shrieked. Sammie
cooperated and soon they were barreling down the Promenade,
sending unwary shoppers lunging to safety.
“Where are we going, then?” Sammie asked once they were a safe
distance away.
“The Caribbean,” Colin shouted, “I hear the Caribbean’s good
this time of year.”
“It’s good all times of year. But it’s crazy expensive.”
“Not in this case,” Colin explained, pulling an envelope out of his
pocket. “While Izzy was inside the building I checked the mailbox.
We won some kind of free vacation.”
“Everybody gets those,” Bennie said, “They’re scams.”
“I don’t think so. This one came with a bunch of free airline
tickets.”
“What about Izzy?” Bennie said. “And Roy?”
Colin threw up his hands. “What can we do? We’ll see about them
when they get out of jail.”
The van zoomed up onto the freeway. They had been fortunate to
escape unscathed. Izzy had not been so lucky. Nor Leona. She
escaped through another route altogether.
From their new elevation above the city the three of them could
see white plumes of smoke against the seascape. The remains of
