mysteries of the world, God has slowly grown feeble and
disappeared. But science has left man nothing for his spirituality—
nothing to develop a foundation for values. So, adrift, and without
any moral guidelines, man has spent the better part of this century
tearing up the earth in a quest to find something to replace God.
“It gets worse. The new scientific way of thinking divided man
and his environment. This only fueled the fire with which man would
begin to destroy his surroundings. Despite what has been known for
eons—that man is unmistakably a part of his own environment, he
suddenly began to believe himself separate, above, aloof; the elite of
the planet, somehow privileged to have the earth and everything
therein as his private indulgence. And this is to be his own undoing.
“But Nietzsche saw the answer to this: In contrast with science,
there is a holistic view that says because we have arisen out of the
earth, the earth must be propelled by the selfsame forces that we are!
Nietzsche called this universal driving force “the will to power.” It
follows that if we have this will to power, the earth must have survival
mechanisms of its own. As we possess an immune system that allows
us to fight off toxins, the earth must also. So all our sick and poisoned
earth needs now is an opportunity for that immune system to get to
work, and that time is soon approaching. Rest assured children, that
day will soon be here. That is the day that will mark the dawn of the
Great Fast.”
There was a generalized rumbling in the crowd. This was
something new. The Omniraja paused for effect and then explained.
“The Great Fast will be none other than the earth’s own defense
mechanism against man’s mistakes, long overdue and fierce in
vengeance. Let me warn you right now that it will be much more than
a sneeze or simple cough. It will be a cataclysm. When the earth
decides to reject its pathogens, it will flush away more than just a few
toxic waste landfills: in its desperation it will attempt to flush away
all the life that exists on this planet. And that, my children, is why we
must be prepared, and thatis why we are here. When the end of the
world comes, we must be prepared to be around to make sure that
the same mistakes aren’t repeated.
“We are the meek who shall inherit the earth, and it is our
meekness that shall make us mighty. For it is only our immense
respect for Mother Earth and her power that will allow us to remain
at peace with her when the rest of the world is washed away. Only we
shall remain. Only the meek. And when at long last the ultimate man,
